This is Our Story....
Canada Goose Cottage is one of the original cottages built at Angell Cove in Leeds, Maine by Barbara and Dick Angell back in 1991. The boating, the bass fishing, the woods, the hiking, and the swimming, combined with the loons, bald eagles, and osprey created the perfect vacation getaway. We chose to stay at Angell Cove for our vacation that inaugural year and have not missed a year since. We enjoyed the swimming and fishing in the summer and came back in the fall on Columbus Day Weekend to see the spectacular foliage. Over the years Barbara and Dick transformed from our landlords to our close friends. We made lasting friendships with many summer guests who, like us, returned every year to this lakeside treasure in Maine. Great memories were made as our children and grandchildren grew up together water skiing, swimming, and prowling the hillsides from dawn to dusk.
Slowly, the cottages grew in number until nine quaint, lakeside cottages stood on the shore of Androscoggin Lake. Not having a favorite, we took turns staying in all nine cottages on our trips as each one had their own personality and decorating style. As time passed, Angell Cove evolved and the once privately owned cottages gained new identities as condominiums. Family and friends became owners as one-by-one the cottages were sold. Finally, the opportunity arose for us and we purchased Cottage 2 - Canada Goose Cottage. The front porch overlooking the beach, the view of the sunsets over Monument Hill, and the location across from the black sand island where bald eagles nest were just a few factors that convinced us that this was the cottage destined to be ours.
As new owners, we made many changes. We renovated the kitchen and added a full size bathroom. We built a deck on the side where you can view the lake, the sunrise and the sunset. The bedroom and loft were whitewashed and the kitchen cupboards received a coat of paint and new countertops. Handpicked furnishings, fittings, and fixtures allowed us to put our own stamp on the cottage. However, while doing this, we were always mindful that this was a traditional lakeside Maine cottage and we kept the integrity of that theme at the heart of our remodel. The spirit of a family owned camp is evident in the knotty pine, buffalo plaid, soft lighting, and touches of cranberry red. The loft is still great for napping, you can still hear the loons and owls from the bedroom at night, and the screen porch is still a cozy place to curl up, gaze out over the lake, and lose yourself in a good book. We welcome you to share and enjoy our beloved piece of paradise. Hopefully, it will become a yearly tradition for you too!
